DuPont™ Corian®
DuPont™ introduced Corian® nationwide in 1971 at the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Show in Houston, Texas. Shortly thereafter, Corian® solid surfaces was introduced in four then-popular colors: Cameo White, Olive Mist, Dawn Beige and Autumn Gold. Cameo White and Dawn Beige remain among the most popular Colors of Corian® today.
Following the introduction of Corian® as a commercial bath product, the market soon discovered new uses for this versatile material, particularly in kitchen countertops. DuPont™ led the industry with a string of innovations over the next two decades. Longer sheet lengths. Computer-controlled color. The introduction of kitchen sinks and bathroom lavatories. Advanced fabrication techniques such as thermoforming, sandblasting and etching. Color-matched silicone and adhesives. An expanded color palette.
By the 1990s, Corian® began to be specified for windowsills, indoor/outdoor furniture, even lighting. Commercial applications also expanded, ranging from reception desks, wall cladding and bumper rails to columns, moldings and wainscoting. Ready-To-Install products for the bath were introduced, allowing Corian® to be installed easily right out of the box. Today, more than 40 years after its introduction, uses of Corian® continue to expand and evolve.
Corian® is truly versatile. You can turn Corian® into anything you want it to be. In its simplest form, it`s a sheet that`s solid all the way through. Combine it with sinks, edge treatments or inlays of different Colors of Corian®, or with other materials, to create works of art throughout the home. Rout it, carve it, sandblast it, even thermoform it to create a masterpiece that reflects any style.
From a purely practical standpoint, Corian® is easy to live with. Its nonporous nature makes it extremely resistant to stains and makes it easy to clean.
